Mental Health & Wellbeing at Woodheys

At our school, we believe that the mental health and wellbeing of every child is at the heart of everything we do. We know that good mental health and wellbeing are essential if children are to reach their full academic potential, as pupils who feel safe, supported and happy are more able to engage in learning and achieve success.

We strongly believe that happy children thrive academically, and we are committed to creating a positive, nurturing environment where all children feel valued, confident and ready to learn. Research shows that children with positive wellbeing are more engaged in learning and achieve better outcomes.

Supporting mental health is a shared responsibility across our whole school community. All staff actively promote children’s emotional wellbeing through strong relationships, a supportive ethos and high expectations for every pupil. Through quality first teaching approaches, we provide inclusive, high-quality learning experiences that meet the needs of all children, ensuring everyone can succeed and feel a sense of belonging.

In addition, we provide targeted support within school through our Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) team, who work with children to develop emotional awareness, resilience and coping strategies. (Please see further information about ELSA support in the SEND section of the website.)

We also work closely with a range of external agencies, ensuring that children and families are able to access the specialist support and services they need. I have included some links and information on some of these agencies below including the Trafford Directory that has a wealth of infomrtaion about community agency support.

By prioritising wellbeing alongside learning, we aim to help every child develop the resilience, confidence and skills they need to flourish both in school and beyond.
