Week beginning Monday 11th July

This week we will be reading the story of 'The Rainbow Fish'. This story is all about friendship which is going to be a focus for us this week.

As the end of term is fast approaching we are beginning to prepare the children for moving into Reception. We will be visiting Reception this week for a play and talking about the similarities and differences that the children notice.

We ask this week if you could encourage you child to come into nursery on their own. This is to encourage independence and it is the routine that they will be following in reception.

Week beginning Monday 4th July

Following on from our farm visit our story this week will be 'The Pig in the Pond'. 

We will be talking about the farm trip and the children will be sharing what they enjoyed the most.

We are learning the jolly phonic songs in nursery and the children are really enjoying learning the different actions that go with the different songs.

On Wednesday it is open evening 3.30pm - 7pm. You are all welcome to come and share your child's learning journey.

 

Week beginningMonday 27th June

This week we are preparing for our farm trip on Friday. The children will be predicting which animals they think they will see on the farm.

We will be using non fiction books to learn more about the animals that live on a farm. In the play dough the children will be making farm animals  and in the workshop the children will be making homes for different farm animals.

Week beginning Monday 20th June

Our story this week will be 'Mrs Pirate' by Nick Sharratt. We will be finding Mrs Pirates rhyming words and be making Mrs Pirate some rhyming soup!!

On Wednesday it is class school photographs and sports day. Children need to bring in their coloured t-shirts and we will change them after they have had their class photograph.

Week beginning Monday 13th June

This week we will be settling the children back into their nursery routine and they will be sharing their holiday news.

We will be starting our mini topic on pirates. Our story this week is 'The Pirate House' by Rebecca Patterson.

We have lots of new enhancements for the children to discover. In the painting area the children will be experimenting with colour mixing.

Week beginning - Monday 23rd May

This week we are learning about spiders. Our story is 'The Very Busy Spider' by Eric Carle. The children will have the chance to re-tell the story in the small world area. In the play dough the children will be able to make their very own spiders. There will be green spaghetti in the water tray for the children to investigate and the children will be using tweezers at the funky finger table to try and pick the spiders out of the web. Outside we have drain pipes and spiders for the children to explore.

We will be practicing for sports day this week, teaching the children how to work as a team.

On Friday we break up for 2 weeks holiday and will return on Monday 13th June.

Week beginning- Monday 16th May

This week we are learning about ladybirds. Our story is 'What the Ladybird Heard' and we will be focusing on rhyming words within the story. The children will have the chance to re- tell the story using the small world area.  We will be drawing maps on a large scale and talking about what we might see if we went to a farm. We will also be reading a selection of non fiction books about ladybirds.

The children loved finding the fairy houses in our outdoor area last week. They were very excited which led to lots of speaking and listening opportunities. The children will be able to make fairy potions in the water area this week and we will continue to discover more about our fairy gardens.

Week beginning - Monday 9th May

This week we are learning all about bees. Our story is 'The Very Greedy Bee' and we will also be reading some non fiction books about bees. We will be tasting honey and talking about our likes and dislikes. The children will meet 'BeeBot' this week our programmable robot.  They will learn how programme him to make him move forwards and backwards.

The children will discover a fairy door in nursery this week which will lead them to find fairy gardens in our outdoor area. The children will have the opportunity to create their own fairy gardens using natural resources.

Week beginning - Tuesday 3rd May

The children really enjoyed learning about caterpillars and butterflies last week and have requested that we continue on this theme. Therefore this weeks story is going to be 'Ten wriggly wiggly caterpillars' which focuses on number and rhyme. We will also share 'Monkey Puzzle' by Julia Donaldson another rhyming story about how a butterfly helps a monkey find his mummy. The children will become minibeast detectives this week finding out lots of interesting facts about butterflies.

Please remember the school is closed to children on Thursday 5th May due to polling day.

Week beginning - Monday 25th April

This week we are looking at caterpillars and butterflies. We will be reading 'The Hungry Caterpillar' and sequencing the story. We will talk about the importance of eating healthy food and the children will make their own healthy fruit salad. We are going to find out some facts about caterpillars and butterflies by looking in non- fiction books. In the creative area this week the children will have the opportunity to create a symmetrical butterfly.

Week beginning - Monday 18th April

This week we are celebrating the Queen's 90th birthday by reading The Birthday Crown and The Queen's Knickers. We will be designing a pair of birthday knickers for the Queen and making birthday crowns to wear at our royal tea party. We will also be trying to follow instructions this week when making our own sandwiches.  

Week beginning - Tuesday 29th March 

This week we will be finishing our once upon a time topic by looking at the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We will be planting our own "magic beans" and learning how to look after them to make sure they grow. We will also be talking about spring, going on a spring walk and doing observational drawings of some spring flowers.

 

On Friday the children may come in their own clothes, donations brought in will be given to UNICEF.  We will then be breaking up for 2 weeks holiday and will return on Monday 18th April.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Week beginning  Monday 21st March

Our traditional story this week is Little Red Riding Hood. We will also be talking about Easter and have lots of fun activities planned. We will be tasting Hot cross buns and making chocolate Easter nests.

On Wednesday the friends of Woodheys will be hosting a chocolate tombola. The children are allowed to bring up to £2 and we will take them to buy their tickets.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Week beginning - Monday 14th March

This week our story is all about The Three Little Pigs. We will be re telling the story using puppets and building new houses for the pigs. We will be investigating how to build a strong house. In the creative area this week we will be pretending to be the big bad wolf. We are going to be blowing ... but instead of blowing down houses we are going to blow paint to create colourful pictures.

Week beginning - Monday 7th March

This week our story is all about The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We will be acting out the story using puppets. In the playdough we can choose to make our own troll. On our transient art table this week we have some different sized cotton reels, egg cups and craft sticks. We are looking forward to seeing the children make their own bridges for the troll.

 

Unfortunately this week parents evening for nursery has had to be postponed due to illness. We will keep you fully informed of the new dates when they are available.
